I came upon this song I wrote almost 10 years ago. I was traveling with Mark Gungor and his event, “Laugh Your Way To A Better Marriage” and this song was written for that event.
The song addresses the never-ending issues of low self-esteem that sadly occurs too often in young girls and then transfers to womanhood. The story tells of the little girl’s love of her father, the woman’s love of her husband and then the source of “true love” which comes from our belief that there is something bigger than us. Something that comes from within which we can draw upon when we allow ourselves to “Wake Up Little Girl”.
No matter one’s belief system my hope is that girls, boys, women, men, all of us! can find some love and healing in this song.
Namaste.
Wake Up Little Girl Janet Planet
A pink and pretty dress had a tear around the waist
As a pink an pretty girl let the tears roll down her face
And she fell from harm to her father’s arms, the hurt would fall away
As he wiped her eyes, his lullabye, would gently ease the pain…
Wake up little girl! there’s a song to sing inside you
Wake up little girl! there’s a dance within your heart
You’re a miracle and all the world will someday want to know you
Wake up little girl! look inside and find true love
A blue and broken woman had lines upon her face
As a blue and broken woman felt a personal disgrace
And she struggled there as her husband cared
She couldn’t hear his plea…
“You are beautiful the way you are and you always were to me”
So, wake up little girl there’s a song to sing inside you
Wake up little girl there’s a dance within your heart
You’re a miracle and all the world will someday want to know you
Wake up little girl, look inside and find true love
A new and perfect woman wears a smile upon her face
As a new and perfect woman, knows the meaning of His grace
And that little girl, just sleeping there, whom all believed had died
Is awakened by the love of Christ
The true love that lives inside
So, wake up little girl there’s a song to sing inside you
Wake up little girl there’s a dance within your heart
You’re a miracle and all the world
will someday want to know you
Wake up little girl
look inside and find
true love.
